Marian Trattner

UT Wellness Network and Counseling and Mental Health Center

Marian Trattner serves as the inaugural Bystander Intervention Specialist for The University of Texas at Austin (UT) where she coordinates an initiative called BeVocal. The mission of BeVocal is to enhance bystanders’ confidence and motivation to intervene in order to prevent and reduce harm. She has close to 10 years working in student affairs. Prior to this, Marian served as the Coordinator for the Be That One Suicide Prevention Program (BT1), a program of the Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) at UT. The program utilizes a public health approach to implement suicide prevention strategies by peer outreach, education, and support. BT1 provides interactive workshops for students, faculty, and staff on recognizing and responding to students experiencing mental health distress and thoughts of suicide. While at CMHC, Marian also served as the instructor and advisor for the Mental Health Promotion Peer Education Program at CMHC. Marian is the founder of the National College Student Suicide Prevention Listserv. She is currently serving as the NASPA Region III Chair for Wellness and Health Promotion Knowledge Community. For self-care, Marian enjoys spending time outside, running, volunteering in her community, and travel.
